If there's one band to see this weekend -- or anytime, for that matter -- it's West Philly trio Stinking Lizaveta.

The jazz/rock instrumental group made up of the eclectic stylings of guitarist Yanni Papadopoulos, the agile playing of his brother, Alexi, on bass, and powerhouse Cheshire 'Agusta on drums is one of the most promising groups among a recent crop of new faces on the local scene.

Stinking Lizaveta's adept mix of avant-jazz complexities with the urgency of hardcore has caught the ears of Chicago noise merchant/producer Steve Albini (Nirvana, P.J. Harvey), who recorded its recent singles for the local Egg Yolk label. A full-length is in the works. Also on the bill is local favorite Shag. (Saturday at the Khyber Pass. ) -- S.S.
