new album review

If Don Cabellero hooked up with Steve Albini in the '80s and put out a
record on SST' this would have been it. Stinking Lizaveta is a Psychotoxic
instrumental power trio from philly that, although produced by Stevie
boy, does manage to escape some of his trademark sound. The bassists use
of an upright fretless bass and the lack of vocals set them aside, without
subtracting anything from a pretty powerful sound. You'll hear Albini's
hand in this, but whether you like that or not, this is pretty fuckin'
good. - Maskatron
A review from Tony Paterra on the World Wide Web...
The show was at 2411 Sarah St., Pittsburgh PA October 4th, 1996
Album is excellent - but one cannot judge this band until they are seen
live. This past weekend I saw them at a house party along with 4 other
bands - Shale, Jumbo and Gore de Vol. Each band was amazing, everything
was very intimate (the bands played in a dark basement). Stinking Lizaveta
amazed everyone in the room with their energy and blazing musical skills.
Guitarist Yanni Papadapoulos (hope spellin is O.K.) played many a blazing
solo, and I watched everything from 2ft. away. I couldn't believe that
I was that close to see a band that kicks so much ass. Drummer Cheshire
Agusta layed down some great grooves and brought smiles to everyone's
face with her exuberance and unique playing style (I must say, as a drummer,
I am in love with her). Bassist Alexi, Brother of Yanni, I think showed
great chops and skill. Check this band out, be it live or on disk.
